The gift that keeps on giving

So I have posted [too?] extensively about my pet peeves in the ER. Here's one I haven't complained about before. People often complain about the wait, if they've had to sit in the waiting room for more than an hour or two, and not uncommonly, the nurses will remind them that the wait in the ER in [insert nearby city here] is at least six hours. On Monday night, I had a patient who went to one of those city emergency rooms, assessed the wait, and then drove another hour to come to a small community hospital where I was. She had back pain, and got seen a lot sooner than she might have otherwise. I was frustrated, and it was tempting to make her wait longer, or to refuse to see her, but I would be on potential trouble if I did, so what could I do?
On the ride home on Monday, I listened to the last of the CDs that Al gifted me at the Icon-o-Clash wrap-party in July. Then I got around to copying them on the computer (no small feat since some featured the dreaded copy protection) so now I will be able to hear them more often at home. Thanks, Al!
Tuesday I had my "day off". While Cheryl tells me that she defines a day off as a day without having to do child care, mine permits the presense of kids, as long as I don't work in the 24-hour period. That is: I get up at home, go to bed at home, and don't work in the interim. For the life of me, I can't remember what I did during the day: It seems to me that I taught Neva how to play Pikimin on the Gamecube. Kay and Jack came over to sit the kids so that Cheryl and I could go out and enjoy the Darbar gift certificate they got us for our anniversary. We enjoyed Chicken Jal Frezi and Chicken Moghlai (sp?), with Bhaji and lassi. Afterwards we went to Windmill's Café for dessert.
Yesterday, I worked in the morning and the evening. In the afternoon, I took the first of five SCUBA lessons for my Advanced Open Water (AOW) license. Sylvain and Mike (a fellow Dolphin SCUBA club member) were to go do a deep dive, but the weather was not cooperative.
Today was another "family fun day" (which is what we call it when the kids are at home). Neva's new bedroom furniture got assembled, I got a rest before work, I made salads to bring with my frozen dinner, and then forgot them at home when I came to work tonight. I'm an idiot.
But at least now I'm caught up.
Except for all my brilliant ideas.
