I'm countin' down to the day deservin'. Fittin' for a king
--Public Enemy, By the Time I Get to Arizona

Almost a year ago, Cheryl and I started making arrangements to assume ownership of my parents' RCI timeshare, which is located near Collingwood, but which can be exchanged for a week in another RCI timeshare around the world once yearly. They use it less now that they vacation so much in their trailer, and in the past eight years, Cheryl and I have used it to go to Bangkok (in 2005), Alberta (with Kenji and Shelley in 2003), Greece (in 2000), and on our honeymoon in Cape Cod in 1996. I think they figured that since we were using it anyway, we may as well take over the payments.

Getting the whole transfer sorted took us the better part of six months worth of legal papers, faxes and phone calls, but the timeshare is finally in our name, and we've gone ahead and booked our first week's use at the Villas of Sedona resort in Arizona. We figured as long as we'll be sorting out our own food, we may as well go somewhere that the shopping and cuisine is familiar, and we'll almost certainly make a trip to the Southern rim of the Grand Canyon while we're there. For the kids, there's an indoor pool.

We'll be gone for the first week of December. In addition to making our timeshare booking online, we have booked our flights (out of Buffalo NY) through travelocity.ca, and will probably end up booking a car through them too.

Now all I have to do is wait until December for my next week off.
