Stylish, virile doll is cowardly (7)

I mentioned before that Cheryl and I were collecting data about falling resort prices as our March break got closer. As we go into a weekend without internet connectivity, and worried about the potential for slim pickings if we wait until too close to our March 8 departure date, Cheryl has gone ahead and booked us a week at Meliá las Antillas in Varadero, Cuba.
We watched prices and availability on FlightCentre.ca, which were comparable to Expedia.ca, and Cheryl vetted the resorts with TripAdvisor.com, where people who have been to resorts post reviews of the places (she has managed to steer us clear of places with noise problems, insect infestations, and diarrhea outbreaks, among other hazards). The process feels kind of like one of those shows where the rewards get better the longer you decide to play, but you risk to lose it all. Plus it's not proven, as far as I can tell, that the savings in the places we would consider going are all that much better if we hold out. I'll find out since I plan to continue to collect data over the next two weeks before we go. I'll publish the results here.
We are doing a Thursday to Thursday vacation, which is more fun than a weekend to weekend as far as I'm concerned, since it gives the impression of two weeks off. Also it's cheaper, but to be honest I should just get over that. Also we're leaving the kids at home, since this may be our last chance for a child-free vacation for some time. My mom will childmind. Thanks, mom!
As an aside, we told the kids last night that Cheryl was pregnant. They seemed nonplussed. Neva had a funny name suggestion, but I don't remember it.
Now that I know where Cheryl and I are going, I get to start getting more excited about it. Yay!
