Bundles in rough shape (5)
-- Stephen Colbert, The Colbert Report
We had a good arrival back to Canada, and a good arrival back to Kingston, but I'm getting ahead of myself...
It ws great to see the kids again on Thursday night, and also my parents and Jen. The kids were clearly excited to see us, and overflowed with hugs and love. On Thursday we got to visit with Jason and Chandra, and had a delicious dinner at The Globe Bistro (In a rare occurrence, I had the pleasure of trying the same mammalian entrée as Jason, since the menu featured caribou leg. It was tasty. After dinner, we picked up Rachel in the city and had her as an overnight guest at my parents' place. As her blog says, she is moving to England next month, and Cheryl and I wanted to have a visit with her, as well (I will get to see her next weekend at the Rheostatics concert, as well).
Knowing that I would be making the drive from Kingston to Campbellford to work tonight, Cheryl and I drove from my parents' place to Kingston last night. In the time I was away, I had over 300 emails, a postbox full of snail mail, and a bunch of new TV to watch.
One of the emails was to let me know about that my dive club was having a scuba olympics this morning at the pool. I went out, and joined about 18 divers for an underwater obstacle course, a "blind" (paper towel inside mask) treasure hunt in the shallow end, tug of war, underwater relay race, and underwater ultimate frisbee. I had the good fortune to be on the winning teams for the team events, and did well in the individual events as well, ultimately netting top honours and my choice of prizes. One of the club leaders has a new company which makes dive supplies, and had donated a spool of line, which I chose - this could be useful for a number of underwater applications, not least of which to float a line to the surface so that I could be found by a boat on a drift dive. Also Cheryl and the kids came for part of it to cheer me on, so it was nice to be able to report to them that I won the Olympics when I got home.
The physician who was originally supposed to work tomorrow night's ER shift here in Campbellford has been stranded on his Caribbean vacation, so I agreed to wrok two nights in a row. That means that tomorrow during the day, I'll get to hang out here and get caught up on all the TV I'm behind because of my Caribbean vacation. I've got a week's worth of The Daily Show and Colbert Report, two episodes each of Heroes and Lost, one episode each of Battlestar Galactica and Little Mosque on the Prairie and possibly a Studio 60. If I should get through all that, I'll watch a movie or some Scrubs or 24.
I'll get back to Kingston again Tuesday now.
